Austin Junk Removal Cost Guide 2025-2026: Complete Pricing Breakdown by Neighborhood

A hand reaches towards a floating, crumpled plastic bag against a dark background, highlighting contrasts and motion.

Ever started a DIY junk removal project only to realize you're in way over your head?

You're not alone. Austin homeowners waste over $400 annually on failed attempts—between truck rentals, gas, disposal fees, and that inevitable chiropractor visit from trying to move your old refrigerator down two flights of stairs.

But here's what really gets me fired up: most junk removal companies in Austin keep their pricing locked away like state secrets. You call for a quote, and they insist on sending someone out to give you an "accurate estimate." Translation? They want to size up your desperation level before dropping their price on you.

That's not how we do things at IREP Junk Removal.

After 15+ years serving every corner of Austin—from those tricky downtown high-rises to the sprawling homes in Westlake—we've completed over 46,393 hauls. And you know what? We're tired of the pricing games other companies play. So here's our complete, no-BS pricing guide. Everything you need to know before we even knock on your door.

Why Austin Junk Removal Costs What It Does

Let's be real—Austin isn't getting any easier to navigate. Between SXSW chaos, UT game day traffic, and that eternal construction on I-35, getting a truck to your house and back isn't the simple affair it once was.

Here's what actually affects pricing in our city:

Traffic is no joke. That 20-minute drive to your house can turn into an hour during peak times. We factor this in rather than showing up late and frustrated. We also drive box trucks with a trailer full of items, and gas prices are up there, so you do the math.

Austin's got rules. Our city takes recycling seriously (more on that later), and proper disposal isn't cheap. When other cities dump everything in landfills, Austin requires the responsible handling of electronics, mattresses, and hazardous materials, and charges businesses for it.

Everyone wants to live here. Higher cost of living means we pay our crews fair wages—because nobody wants hangry, underpaid, uninsured people handling their belongings.

Access challenges are real. Whether it's a downtown condo with elevator restrictions or a hill country home with a quarter-mile driveway, Austin properties keep us on our toes.

The big franchise companies usually handle these challenges by tacking on fees after they arrive. "Oh, there's a $50 access charge we didn't mention." "Sorry, we need to add a fuel surcharge." "Oh, actually, we'll need another team out here." Not cool.

We build real Austin conditions into our upfront pricing. What we quote is the highest amount you could pay. If we flubbed, that's on us.

If you add things not initially there, or didn't tell us we couldn't park within 50 feet of the building, that's on you.

Here's What Junk Removal Actually Costs in Austin

Let's talk straight: junk removal pricing confuses people because most companies either hide the price or quote by the hour, which means you're essentially paying for traffic on MoPac. We don't do that.

IREP prices by volume — how much space your stuff takes up in our truck and trailer. Measure it, quote it, done. And unlike a dumpster rental, our crew does all the lifting.

One important note: if your job involves labor — moving, bagging, disassembling, sorting — that's a "trash out" or "cleanout" service, and prorated labor is added to the base load price. Drive time is not billed.

There's a flat $7.99 fuel surcharge on every job (as of June 2026), and a $180 minimum.

A note on Austin's FREE bulk collection:

Understand that it's a good option to have, but if you are getting them to pick up anything that could be useful to someone, know that it's going straight to the landfill. It's weird how that works for a service that was made to help fulfill a zero-waste goal, don't you think?

The "Starter Haul" — Up to 80 cu ft / $180+

Think a few bags, one piece of furniture, or the aftermath of a small bathroom swap. This is the minimum load — about the size of a packed walk-in closet corner. Great for landlords clearing out one room after a quick turnover.

The "Dorm Room or Studio" — 81–125 cu ft / $275+

A queen mattress set, a chest of drawers, and 10–15 medium boxes. Roughly the volume of a walk-in closet packed halfway to the ceiling. Perfect for single-unit turnovers, small estate starts, or property managers clearing a studio.

The "One-Bedroom Apartment" — 126–250 cu ft / $450+

A queen bed set, loveseat, coffee table, small dining set, and 20+ boxes. About the size of a small cargo van. This covers most 1BR apartment trash outs — the most common job we run for property managers and realtors.

The "Large Apartment / Small House" — 251–500 cu ft / $695+

Two full bedrooms of furniture, a sofa, TV stand, and a kitchen's worth of boxed items. Roughly half a standard 20-foot shipping container. If you're clearing a 2BR or a small house after a writ, this is your range.

The "Downsized Family Home" — 501–625 cu ft / $800+

A 2–3 bedroom home traveling light — sectional, kitchen table set, 40–50 boxes. About the size of a 12–15-foot moving truck. We see this a lot on estate jobs and full apartment complex eviction cleanouts.

The "Multi-Bedroom Family Home" — 626–900 cu ft / $1,100+

The full arsenal: major appliances, dining room set for six, multiple sofas, 50–70 boxes. This fills a large 20-foot moving truck or a packed one-car garage. Our truck-and-trailer combo handles it in one load — that's ~33 cubic yards, more than a 40-yard dumpster, and we do all the work.

Real talk for property managers: A 693 sq ft apartment we cleared in May 2026 generated 980 cubic feet of material — 41% more than the unit's own square footage. Clients consistently overestimate the level of mess they have, but underestimate the volume. That's why we measure on-site before finalizing any quote. You think it's a Level 3. We show up with a tape measure.

Compare that to renting a 20-yard dumpster (only 540 cu ft), loading it yourself, and paying pickup fees. IREP hauls up to 900 cubic feet with full labor included. Do the math.

Surcharges apply for mattresses/box springs ($39/unit), tires ($10/unit), and paint ($7/gal). All prices exclude tax. Book online and save 10%.

An important thing to factor in when getting quotes is to compare the price with the volume that it takes for that price.

Volume Pricing Situation Example:

Say you have 500 cubic feet of stuff, but you only list out the items you have or send pictures, and Company A says, "That's a full truck. $550."

IREP says, "That's a full trailer. $695."

The lower price sounds better when watching your budget.

But what if you ask, "What's the volume?"

Company A says, "I can only take 405 cubic feet in their truck (or 15 cubic yards),"

IREP says, " That covers up to 500 cubic feet (18.5 cubic yards), but we still have 400 cubic feet left."

That means IREP is already cheaper by 4 cents per cubic foot, and they have more room. Company A is not only more expensive, but they basically told you that not all your stuff is going to fit, and they'll get you to book, come out there, and say, "Hey, we're going to need another truck."

Now you're paying for 1 full truck at $550 and a 1/4 of another truck, while potentially waiting for another team to arrive, or for the same team to leave and come back.

Then you may think, "Is there a trip, fuel, or hourly charge too? What about surcharges for particular items? Are they just throwing the items away?"

I think we know the best choice.

Austin Neighborhoods: What You Need to Know

Downtown Austin (78701, 78702, 78703)

Downtown's tricky, but we've got it figured out. Narrow streets, parking meters, elevator coordination—we handle it all in our base price. No surprise "urban access fees" here.

Pro tip: Morning pickups (8-10 AM) work best downtown. Less traffic, more available parking, and building managers are usually more cooperative.

Central Austin (78704, 78705, 78751, 78756)

These neighborhoods are our bread and butter—established areas with character and, let's be honest, some quirky access situations. Got mature oak trees making your driveway interesting? We've navigated worse.

Heads up: If you're dealing with oak debris during oak wilt season (February-June), we coordinate with certified arborists. No extra charge, just good Austin citizenship.

North Austin (Cedar Park, Round Rock, Pflugerville)

Love the space out there, and a distance for us, but we will serve you, and you only have the standard fuel charge. Way less than what franchise companies charge, and we actually show up when promised.

Bonus: Our smaller trucks often get into places where those giant franchise trucks can't fit. Subdivision streets and HOA restrictions? Not a problem.

South Austin (78745, 78748, 78749)

Keep Austin weird, right? Standard rates apply throughout South Austin. We've got special experience with flood-prone areas too—after major weather events, we prioritize cleanup without jacking up prices.

West Austin (78746, 78759)

Hill country homes often mean bigger jobs and trickier access. Our crews know how to handle high-value items with care, and we don't charge premium prices just because the neighborhood has nice zip codes.

How We Stack Up Against the Competition

Look, I won't name names, but those big franchise companies? They're expensive. And they play games.

What you'll typically save with IREP: 25-35% compared to major franchises

What they charge extra for that we include:

  • "Difficult access" fees

  • Weekend service premiums

  • Appliance disposal charges

  • Stair fees (seriously, they charge extra for stairs)

We're not the cheapest option in Austin—we pay fair wages and handle disposal responsibly. But we're less than the big guys while providing better local knowledge and no-surprise pricing.

We are a woman-owned, Austin-based company that's been around for over 13 years. Not a franchise. Our small business of around 10 employees all live in Texas, and 95% live in the greater Austin area. We live here, we give here. Your money and items stay as local as possible.

We are licensed and insured, our employees have uniforms, and our trucks are tracked and wrapped. No chance of us dumping illegally. It's common knowledge that the lowest price companies have a higher risk of dumping illegally, which causes pollution, taxpayer costs, and officials using their time to clean up a mess rather than more important duties.

We even have 280+ 5-star Google reviews, and won two statewide sustainability awards in 2025. What more can you ask for?

Smart Ways to Save Money

Timing is Everything

Book Tuesday through Thursday for the best availability and occasional off-peak discounts. Monday and Friday? Everyone wants those days.

Get Ready Before We Arrive

Having everything staged and accessible saves time, which saves money. We're not charging by the hour, but efficiency helps everyone.

Coordinate with Neighbors

Got a neighbor also planning a cleanout? Sometimes we can coordinate pickup times and share truck space. Austin's a neighborly city—might as well act like it.

Consider Donations

Quality items go to our IREP Resale store, reducing disposal volume and helping local families. It's a win-win that can lower your costs.

The Real Cost of Doing It Yourself

Before you rent that pickup truck, consider the actual DIY costs:

  • Truck rental: $70-90/day or Dumpster rental: $400-$600 for a week

  • Gas: $50-60

  • Disposal fees: $80-100+ depending on materials

  • Tires: flats, blowouts, or possible towing

  • Your time: Probably worth something

  • Injury risk: Priceless (and not in a good way)

By the time you add it up, professional service often costs the same or less—with zero risk of throwing out your back.

Quick Cost Calculator

Here's a rough formula for estimating your project:

  1. Big furniture pieces = 1/8 truck each (couch, bed, etc.)

  2. Appliances = 1/8 truck each (fridge counts as two pieces)

  3. 15-20 boxes = 1/4 truck space

  4. Add 20% buffer for miscellaneous stuff

Want a precise quote? We do free on-site estimates with binding prices—no pressure, no games. You can even try out our cool estimator tool if you know measurements or have a list of common items.

Have a trash out that requires labor with volume removal? We made a trash-out tool, too.

Why Honest Pricing Matters

The junk removal industry has a reputation problem, and it's because too many companies play pricing games. They quote low to get in the door, then hit you with fees and upsells once their truck is in your driveway.

That's not how Austinites do business.

Our quotes include everything: labor, fuel, disposal, recycling, donations, and any special handling needed. What we say is what you pay, period.

Ready to Reclaim Your Space?

After 15 years in Austin, we've learned that good service starts with honest communication. No pricing games, no high-pressure sales tactics, just straightforward service from people who actually live in this city and understand its challenges.

Every IREP job supports local employment and Austin's environmental goals through our industry-leading recycling and donation program. Plus, you'll never get hit with surprise fees or have to negotiate with our crew in your driveway.
